Free cash withdrawals abroad

I wanted to use my first post as an opportunity to let you know about a bank account which doesn’t charge customers to withdraw cash when overseas.

I found out about Metro Bank through the fantastic Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert site. It is only London-based but the bank is looking to expand outside of London. I used to use Nationwide’s Flex account when I was travelling overseas but like most banks, it began to add fees. Not only does Metro offer free withdrawals but customers walk away with the actual bank card, pin number and internet banking set up within about 20 minutes- all you need to do is take two documents with your address on and ID. Plus the bank is open 7 days a week.

Some banks offer credit cards which also allow for free withdrawals but if you’re looking for a debit card, Metro is one of only a few around.
